Next meeting is Thursday, March 18th at Ypsilanti Public Library at 10am.

What should our main discussion topic be? I'm open for suggestions - although as you know our discussions are pretty free flowing.

Minutes from September 17, 2009 meeting at Novi Public Library

Discussion started at:
How to publicize locally with newspapers dying

Detroit still has many papers and they are using clippings. The free papers are still strong but less customers are reading them.

Jackson's paper has downsized but the county paper is still strong and gets good advertising - Myspace really helped with their millage.

Question posed to the group - does cable help - only a few people raised their hand

Jackson does ads on Fuelyourmind.com and eblasts with the commerce and arts foundation

Detroit buys specific slots on Comcast for Detroit zip codes on Lifetime, BET, USA & MTV - $35 per commericial

Bay County got a special deal they went in on for $1 a slot for $300 slots with their cable company - however, Bay County still finds that in house marketing works best

With the economy down very little is out there for free but there are more specials and deals out there.

Public Service Announcements have gone to seed and are basically no more.

Detroit spent $10,000 for their literacy walk in radio spots but everyone heard about it.

Idea - have an author coming - have them do a radio interview with the author in the person or over the phone.

Dearborn Heights does very specific target marketing - working with stores to let them know what is going on that would match with the store

Show of hands - how many people have marketing plans - only three people raised their hand; marketing plans can help to hold you accountable and quantify your objectives
